In a statement released this Thursday (6), Uber stated that it will terminate Uber Eats’ restaurant delivery services in Brazil from March 8th. According to the company, the service will be repositioned to work with Cornershop technologies, resulting in a new focus for the delivery of convenience and market items.

Her too committed to continue investing in the Uber Direct system, which connects delivery partners and drivers to companies seeking delivery solutions.

Uber claims that the Uber Eats application will continue to work and you will not need to install your own Cornershop software to use it in your new stage. The decision should not affect the company’s other services, which are mainly focused on mobility solutions offered by modalities such as Uber X, Uber Black and Uber Moto, among others.

Uber Eats closing is linked to new bill

The announcement of the closing of the delivery of meals to restaurants is directly related to a decision by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). Last Wednesday (5) he signed a bill that obliges application companies to take out accident insurance during working hours of your deliverymen.

The company did not mention the sanction of the bill as one of the reasons for the decision, limiting itself to stating that it is reflection of a change in internal strategy. To CNN Brasil, the company stated that it is “offering full support to restaurants during this period of change.”, especially those who only deliver through Uber Eats.

The eventual choice to use another delivery app belongs to the restaurant itself, so our recommendation is to contact it directly”, added the company. Promotions and credits associated with the application continue until March 7th, and any balance available after that date may be used for other Uber services.
