You can already see the trailer for the new “Uncharted” film in cinemas and on various web video platforms. This inevitably draws the attention of the community to the acclaimed video game series, which has been at a standstill for several years now. The developer Naughty Dog only delivers the “Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection” (2022) to its fans. Before that, the last game was released in 2017. However, it is not a new collection that the fans are eagerly awaiting, but a new part for the main series: “Uncharted 5“.

Uncharted 5 planned?

Development studios rarely state their plans clearly in advance of publication. Such behavior can be observed, for example, with Rockstar Games and the alleged intentions for an upcoming “GTA 6” release. The US video game developer Naughty Dog is also largely behind the fence with information about a possible “Uncharted 5”.

Nevertheless: Every now and then the companies let something shine through. In the case of Rockstar, this happened recently as part of a sales forecast. The “Uncharted” developer could hide hints in the promo for the release of the new collection. The creative director of “Uncharted: The Lost Legacy” (2017), Shaun Escayg, gives the fans at least a small glimmer of hope.

“I think it’s safe to say that we can never say never. That’s correct. Uncharted is a series that we love – that the studio loves. I love it and Kurt loves it. It’s a world we want to see more of. So I can say that with certainty.”

Uncharted movie ahead

The new Uncharted movie, starring Tom Holland, is scheduled to hit theaters on February 18, 2022. Escayg and his Kurt Margenau, the game director of the 2017 offshoot of the series, can’t say much about it. The two were “not directly involved”. But Margenau is excited to see how Holland will do in his role as Nathan Drake.

“I’m just excited. It’s like it’s finally here! We’ve got Uncharted on the big screen, and it won’t change directors again, and it won’t be in development any longer. And I think Tom Holland is a great choice.”

It remains to be seen whether and when Naughty Dog will announce the release of “Uncharted 5”. But we will keep you up to date.
