The Federal Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) reported that, in collaboration with the company Lockheed Martin, it carried out a flight test of a hypersonic missile last March.
According to a US agency statement, after being launched from the plane that carried it, the projectile was propelled by a turbojet and accelerated to more than five times the speed of sound for "a long period of time".
DARPA revealed that the device reached altitudes above 65,000 feet (nearly 20 kilometers) and traveled over 300 nautical miles (about 555 kilometers).
