The Xiaomi 12 series was launched in China in December last year. The main lineup consists of three smartphones – Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro and Xiaomi 12X. However, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra was absent from this series. Reports have suggested that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra is close to a global launch after some of its key specs were leaked. Recently, its rear design details surfaced on Weibo, indicating that this flagship smartphone may feature a remarkably large rear camera module. The insider compared its design to an upcoming flagship offering from Vivo.

The Xiaomi 12 Ultra is believed to feature a large rear camera module that spans almost the entire width of the handset. Its outer part is expected to have a rectangular shape, while the centrally placed circular inner section is angled to house all of the camera’s sensors. The insider mentions that this design layout could be very similar to the design of an upcoming flagship smartphone from Vivo, which could have its left-aligned circular camera island.
Previous reports suggested that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra would pack a quad rear camera setup with a 5x periscope telephoto lens. This lens may be the tallest optical zoom lens available on a smartphone at launch. In addition, the smartphone is believed to have Leica cameras. The smartphone is expected to sport a curved screen with a centrally positioned selfie camera. Furthermore, it is expected to be powered by Xiaomi’s internal Surge chips, similar to all other Xiaomi 12 series smartphones. These chips are designed to improve the overall image quality of the smartphone.
The Xiaomi 12 Ultra is said to have a 6.6-inch 2K AMOLED display. It is believed to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. Rumor has it that the smartphone will be released in February to succeed the Xiaomi 11 Ultra.
