In January 2022, Disney Plus will take two Oscar Movies with the program. If you haven’t seen them yet, let me tell you: they are worth a look.

In 2015 and 2018, the two films that won Oscars for Best Picture, respectively: Birdman and Shape Of Water, also dominated other film awards, winning Overwhelmed by positive reviews. Now you can stream the Oscar movies on Disney Plus. Here’s what it’s all about:

It’s about Riggan Thomson (Michael Keaton), who once portrayed the iconic superhero Birdman, but is now only struggling through financial and personal crises. One day he’ll get a chance for a career comeback: the Broadway adaptation of Raymond Carver’s What We Talk About When We Talk About Love could put him back in the spotlight. But three days before the performance, the actor gets into all sorts of conflicts…
“Birdman” received four awards at the 2015 Academy Awards:
- Best Picture (for Alejandro G. Iñárritu)
- Best Director (for Alejandro G. Iñárritu)
- Best Cinematography (for Emmanuel Lubezki)
- Best Original Screenplay (for Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Nicolás Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, Jr. and Armando Bó)
He was also nominated in five other categories.
“Shape Of Water”
During the Cold War, the mute Elisa (Sally Hawkins) works in a high-security laboratory in the USA. She is lonely and isolated after her work. But one day her life changes completely: she and her colleague and friend Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a top-secret experiment in which a mysterious fish creature (Doug Jones) is being held captive in a tank. Soon she begins to develop feelings for the mysterious creature.
At the Oscars 2018, “Shape Of Water” not only received the award for “Best Film”. Guillermo del Toro also received the award for “Best Director”. In addition, Alexandre Desplant received an award for “Best Film Music”. There was also an Oscar for “Best Scenic Picture”. By the way: the film was nominated in nine other categories.
