THE YouTube announced that it will be officially exiting the original content production market after six years of work. The company claims that the program ‘YouTube Originals‘ was responsible for changes to the platform, but that is terminating its team working in that division.
Launched in 2016, the ‘originals‘ had as its mission to be the platform area to enter the streaming market and compete with giants like Netflix and hulu. Over the years, the company team focused on developing series and documentaries such as Justin Bieber: Seasons, Liza on Demand and the Snake Kai. However, in 2018 the company changed the focus of its film and series productions with scripts for music, celebrities and educational content creators.
After these changes, several series that were from the platform migrated to other services, such as Snake Kai, which migrated to Netflix and was successful during its third season. Now the Youtube announced that officially ending the program ‘originals‘, stating that the company’s investments can have a “greater impact on even more creators when applied to other initiatives, such as our Creator Shorts Fund, Black Voices Fund and programming live shopping”.
